My Honest Truly Free Review After 1 Year: Worth It?
You’ve probably seen Truly Free all over social media. Health influencers love it. Moms swear by it. And the before-and-after cleaning videos? Very convincing.
But here’s the real question:
Do Truly Free cleaning products actually work — or are they just another aesthetic, “non-toxic” brand riding the wellness wave?
Because let’s be honest…Switching to non-toxic cleaning products can be so frustrating. Some don’t clean well. Some leave residue. Some are wildly expensive. And some you’re straight-up just paying for branding.
I’ve tried a lot of non-toxic cleaning brands over the years (the good, the bad, and the disappointing). So when I kept seeing people rave about Truly Free — especially about how cost-effective it was — I decided to test it myself.
I’ve now used some of their most popular cleaning products for over a year.

Since then, Truly Free has expanded into a full range of non-toxic cleaning products for essentially every cleaning need — from laundry to kitchen to even fruit and veggie wash. They’re basically a one-stop shop for cleaning your home without the nasty chemicals.
One thing that really makes Truly Free unique is their commitment to reducing plastic waste. Their products come in reusable containers with refill sachets, so if you’re looking for a more eco-minded option, this is a big plus.
Are Truly Free Ingredients Actually Non-Toxic?
One thing I always appreciate about a brand is ingredient transparency, and Truly Free does a great job. They clearly list ingredients and avoid synthetic fragrances, dyes, and many of the common harsh chemicals found in conventional cleaners.
If their products do have a scent they come from essential oils, and they also offer unscented options if you’re sensitive.
As always, “non-toxic” isn’t a regulated term, so I recommend reviewing ingredient lists if you have specific sensitivities — but overall, their formulations align well with a lower-tox lifestyle.
Is Truly Free Actually More Affordable?
Alright, let’s talk price. Because one of the biggest reasons people hesitate to switch to non-toxic cleaning products is cost. And honestly? I get it. Some “clean” brands are wildly expensive.
One of the things that initially caught my attention about Truly Free was how many people were saying it was more cost-effective than other natural brands.
And after using it for a year, I can see why.
Since most of their products are concentrated refills that you mix with water at home, you’re not paying for a bottle full of mostly water — which is often the case with traditional cleaners. You’re also reusing the same container, which cuts down on packaging costs (and waste).
For example, the laundry detergent is highly concentrated, so you only need a small amount per load. When you break it down per wash — especially if you use their subscribe-and-save option — it ends up being very comparable to, and sometimes cheaper than, other non-toxic brands.
Is it cheaper than conventional cleaning products from the grocery store? Not always. But compared to many brands in the natural cleaning space, I do think it offers solid value for the quality, performance, and refill system.

My Honest Review of Truly Free Cleaning Products
Alright let’s jump in! Here is my review of the six cleaning products I’ve been using over the last year.
Laundry Detergent
A good non-toxic laundry detergent can be hard to find. One that actually cleans well and leaves clothes smelling fresh (without overpowering fragrance) isn’t always easy to come by. This one definitely checks those boxes.
It does a great job removing dirt and grime. My clothes always come out clean and smelling fresh — even my sweaty gym clothes. No weird residue either.
The Signature Scent is very mild and pleasant, and it comes exclusively from essential oils. I personally love it, but they also offer an unscented version if you’re more sensitive.
I love that the detergent comes in these refill sachets that you just add to your reusable jug, fill with water and mix. So easy and low-waste!
My only “con” is that the detergent is thinner than what I’m used to. It’s very concentrated (you only need a small amount per load), but I did find it slightly messier to pour compared to thicker formulas. It could totally be user error — or my jug pours oddly — but it’s something I noticed. Not a dealbreaker at all given how well it cleans, just something to be aware of.
Dryer Angel
Next up — the Dryer Angels.
After learning how not-great conventional dryer sheets are, I went looking for a safer alternative and found these.
They’re little sachets filled with corn cob infused with essential oils. You place the refill into the reusable Dryer Angel cover and toss it in with your laundry.
I really love these! I’ve completely replaced dryer sheets with these. Each refill lasts about 30 loads, so you get way more use out of one compared to single-use dryer sheets.
Mine is in their signature scent (ingredients listed below) and it’s nice! Earthy and grounded but very mild. It’s not overpowering whatsoever. I did see that they now offer a lemongrass & geranium scent, which I’ll be trying next!

Laundry Machine Cleaner
I don’t think I ever realized how grimy a washing machine can actually get until I used the Truly Free laundry machine cleaner.
Conventional laundry detergents can build up over time, along with dust, clothing fibers, mildew, and mold — all of which can affect how well your clothes wash and even create funky odours.
This machine cleaner comes as a convenient dissolvable sachet. Just run a cycle and done! I genuinely loved this one. My washing machine felt (and smelled) like new afterward.
Bathroom Cleaner
The bathroom cleaner is probably my favourite cleaning product out of all of the ones I’ve tried. It’s multipurpose, so you can use it on tile, floors, counters, sinks, mirrors — basically everything in your bathroom.
Like the others, it comes as a refill sachet. Add water, shake, and you’re good to go.
This cleaner has virtually no scent so it’s perfect if you want an effective, unscented cleaner.
I’ve repurchased this one multiple times now. I would actually go as far as to say I think it’s one of the best non-toxic multipurpose bathroom cleaners. It has excellent cleaning power without the harsh, toxic ingredients.
Toilet Bowl Cleaner
This one was super interesting to me. The Truly Free toilet bowl cleaner is different from your traditional cleaners – it’s actually a spray and not a gel.
I’ll admit I was curious to see how this product would clean and was actually very surprised.
The refills contain a liquid cleaner which you just combine with water. When you spray it does foam up slightly. I usually just spray it on, scrub with a brush, let it sit and rinse. It cleans really well.
My favourite part about this cleaner is the gentle peppermint essential oil scent. It’s very clean and refreshing without being headache-inducing.
Dishwasher Soap
Non-toxic dishwasher detergent was one of the most challenging swaps for me, because a lot of options just simply don’t clean well or leave your glasses cloudy.
I took a chance on the Truly Free dishwasher soap and was actually pleasantly surprised. It comes as a loose powder (not tablets). It really does a great job at cleaning all my dishes and cookware, and no cloudiness!
If you’re fine with a powder, this is a great non-toxic dishwasher detergent option.

Final Thoughts: Is Truly Free Worth It?
After using Truly Free consistently for the past year, I can confidently say this:
Yes, it actually works.
The laundry detergent cleans well. The bathroom cleaner is one of the best non-toxic options I’ve tried so far. The dishwasher soap performs better than most natural alternatives. And I love their refill system from a waste-reduction standpoint.
Is it perfect? No. The thinner laundry detergent texture can be a little messy. And if you prefer pods or tablets, the powder dishwasher soap may not be your favourite.
But overall?
If you’re looking for:

- A more affordable alternative to many natural brands

Would I repurchase?
Yes, I have and I will continue to! But, for select products.
I found a non-toxic laundry detergent I liked even better (that was thicker) so I no longer use this one, but the bathroom cleaners, dishwasher detergent and dryer angels are household cleaning staples for me now.
Truly Free is absolutely worth considering! It’s one of the few non-toxic brands I’ve tried that actually balances performance, price, and ingredient transparency.
And that’s really not so easy to find.
